3D Imaging of On-Chip Porous Medium Using X-ray Laminography: Application to Reactive Flow Dissolution at Small Scales

نویسندگان

چکیده

In this study, X-ray laminography is used to monitor the evolution of a model 3D packed bed porous medium on chip (micromodels) undergoing reactive flows. The obtained images are compute fluid flow patterns and develop insights into dissolution mechanisms. This study first proof concept with controlled micromodels, could later be extended towards deeper understanding precipitation processes occurring in media at microscale, mechanisms which relevant many industrial areas including catalysis, geochemistry, energy, waste storage deep geological formations, etc.

Unpowered Opens Test with X-Ray Laminography

Last year’s ITC started a lecture series on unpowered opens testing. All papers last year recognized the importance of an effective method of detecting solder opens and all used some electrical method to detect solder opens, the most common manufacturing defect on today’s surface mount printed circuit boards. However non-electrical methods are available today with significant benefits such as h...

Imaging biofilm in porous media using X-ray computed microtomography.

In this study, a new technique for three-dimensional imaging of biofilm within porous media using X-ray computed microtomography is presented. Due to the similarity in X-ray absorption coefficients for the porous media (plastic), biofilm and aqueous phase, an X-ray contrast agent is required to image biofilm within the experimental matrix using X-ray computed tomography. The presented technique...

Application of small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) for differentiation between normal and cancerous breast tissues

ABSTRACT Background: Coherent scattering leads to diffraction effects and especially constructive interferences. Theseinterferences carry some information about the molecular structure of the tissue. As breast cancer isthe most widespread cancer in women, this project evaluated the application of small angleX-ray scattering (SAXS) for differentiation between normal and cancerous breast tissues....

Evaluation of multifunctional targeted gold nanoparticles on X-ray attenuation in nasopharyngeal cancer cells by X- ray imaging

Introduction: Head-and-neck cancer is the sixth most common cancer worldwide with the number of cases consistently increasing in developing countries. Successful development of effective, safe and cost effective nanoprobes for head-and-neck cancer targeting imaging is a big challenge. This study is aimed to develop cysteamine-folate conjugated gold nanoparticles (F-Cys-AuNPs) a...

Composite Laminate Impact Damage Assessment by High Resolution 3d X-ray Tomography and Laminography

Improvements to toughening mechanisms in composite materials have hitherto relied on visual inspection techniques that can be rather limited, especially since the inherent damage behaviour is three-dimensional (3D) requiring high resolution to capture micro-cracks and similar damage. To achieve a better understanding of impact damage behaviour, synchrotron radiation computed laminography (SRCL)...
